Voordat de ‘algemene lijst van tips’ voorbij komt zou ik beginnende Mac-gebruikers graag wijzen op mijn lijstje van ‘absolute gotta-haves’.
De standaard browser voor het internet bij Apple is natuurlijk Safari. Dat is een goede maar daar red je het alleen niet mee.
Neem daarom ook Firefox en Opera op in je programma’s.
Opera werkt nog het meest als MS Internet Explorer en er zijn sites die dat helaas nodig zijn.
Voor je mail zou je Thunderbird i.p.v. Apple’s Mail kunnen overwegen.
Daarnaast heb je voor de diverse filmpjes op het internet, en daar hebben we het nu toch over, codecs nodig die het afspelen an al die reut mogelijk maken. En dat kan.
Nu is ‘unSOUND_OSX’ iemand die een fantastische set bij elkaar zoekt voor je en dat pakketje kan je bij unSOUND downloaden.
Het pakketje uitpakken en de duidelijke aanwijzingen die er bij zitten opvolgen en er kan weinig mis gaan.
De DiVX en Flip4Mac uit dat setje zou ik niet gebruiken, wegens beta en trial, maar even de verse downloaden bij de eigen servers.
Aan de Real Player ontkom je niet en met een beetje geluk hoef je de Windows Media Player niet te veel te gebruiken.
Het blijft een brak ding, MS is er dan qua ontwikkeling ook mee gestopt. Als je kan kiezen, ga dan voor de Real-stream.
Ook de Flash-player ga je hard nodig zijn.
Voor de meeste mensen is het MSN-en erg belangrijk.
De MSN Messenger voor Mac van MS ga ik je niet aanraden.
Wel AdiumX en aMSN.
De eerste is een multi-protocol-client en de tweede heeft ook webcam-support.
Kinda.
Helaas zitten er niet meer voldoende ‘uitpak’/compressie-programma’s meer in Mac OS 10.4.
Een aantal ben je echter wel nodig.
Stuffit Expander is de klassieker en daarnaast tip ik graag op UnrarX voor de Rar-bestanden.

Ik gebruik deze software zelf ook op zeer regelmatige basis.
